Here you will find some answers to common questions and also some procedure steps to help you through the purchase process and watching of the events.
1. How do I purchase an event?
- Click on the Events menu link
- Here you will find a list of events. When a race is available to purchase, there will be a Purchase Event button displayed. Click this button to buy.
- Clicking this button will take you off the Knoxville Live site and to Paypal. Here you can enter credit card info or log into you Paypal account (if you have one) to make your payment
- Review the order and click the Pay Now button when ready to complete the purchase
- After the payment has gone through you will get a confirmation page that you have made a payment. IMPORTANT: do not do anything here as you will be Automatically brought back to the Knoxville LIVE site and placed right onto the page where the stream will broadcast. This can take a few seconds, so be patient as it can take 2 to 20 seconds for Paypal to reconnect to the Knoxville LIVE site.
- Check your email. You should receive a receipt of payment from Paypal and also a Thank You email from this site with instructions and a copy of your personal link to the event. In case you do not get redirected correctly or you do not bookmark the page and cannot get back to the broadcast page at a later time, refer to this email to retrieve your broadcast link.
2. What speed Internet connection do I need to have?
- You CANNOT view the broadcast on Dial-Up. You need a Cable, DSL, T1 or High Speed Satellite* connection.
- On the broadcast page there is a choice of 2 different connection speeds (Standard and High) to accommodate varying home Internet connections.
- Standard 600 Kbps (we recommend a 1.0 Mbps download speed connection on your end).
- High 1600 Kbps (we recommend a 3.0 Mbps download speed connection or higher on your end).
- To test your home connection speed, please use one of the following sites: SpeedTest or SpeakEasy.
* For Satellite connections, please check with your provider as some services limit your daily bandwidth transfer, so streaming a broadcast for 4 hours might exceed your limit. Even if you have enough speed to view a High connection, you might consider the Standard connection to the broadcast if you are limited. This way you transfer less and have a better chance of keeping under your limits.
3. I did not receive my receipt and/or confirmation email?
When you purchase a PPV event you should receive 2 emails right after the purchase. One from Paypal with your receipt and another from The Knoxville LIVE site that is a Thank You for your purchase and also instructions with a personal link to the broadcast that is custom to your purchase and IP address. If you did not receive these both of these emails, please go through the list below and if need be, send us an email via our Contact page.
- Make sure you are checking the mail for the same email address that was used for the purchase on the Paypal site.
- Check your Junk Mail folder. Some mail settings have their spam/junk mail filters set high and these type of automated emails will get caught up in the Junk Mail by accident instead of making it to your Inbox.
- If you mis-spelled your email during the purchase process, you will not receive any of these emails and will need to email us using the Contact page.
4. How do I bookmark the broadcast page?
We suggest after purchase, when you are automatically sent to the broadcast page, that you bookmark that page in case you wish to leave during the race and return later. The link for the broadcast is specific to your purchase and IP address, so it is your distinct entry to the race. If you do not know how to bookmark a page, please see below.
- (For PC Users) Press the Ctrl and D keys on your keyboard at the same time. A bookmark dialog box will appear and you may save the page link. To retrieve it simply use the Favorites or Bookmarks tab in your browser and scroll down to the link.
- (For Mac Users) Press the Command and D keys on your keyboard at the same time.
5. What do I do if the video is choppy, not smooth?
Since this is the Internet choppy video can happen from time to time, but it should not stay that way for any long period of time. If it does please try the following.
- Make sure you have chosen the right connection to the broadcast to meet your home Internet speed. Knoxville LIVE broadcasts at 3 different speed rates to try an accommodate all users.
- If you are unsure of your Internet connection speed, please refer to Item 2 on this page for ways to test your speed and also which of the 3 streams we are broadcasting best suits your connection.
- WiFi connections can sometimes cause this as they are not as reliable as a hard line connection and will experience more fluctuation in speed over a period of time.
- Any other users/computers on the same Internet connection can draw speed away from your broadcast. Especially if another user is streaming video, downloading files or music, etc.
- Test your speed (see Item 2 on this page) and make sure your connection is still strong and that there is not any outages/interuptions with your service provider.
- Try to Refresh/Reload the page by making sure it calls out to the server to bring the page back in. Do this by holding the Shift key and clicking the Refresh/Reload button in your browser.
6. What computer requirements do I need?
- Base Player requirements: Intel Pentium III 1.0 ghz or equivalent processor with latest version of Flash. Smooth fullscreen requires Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent. 64mb video ram suggested.
- Medium and High Bandwidth Players provide a better viewing experience but require more processing power. Intel Dual Core or equivalent suggested for smooth fullscreen playback.
- Non Intel Macintosh Computers and First generation Netbook computers using Atom processors may have insufficient processing power to view even our Base Player smoothly.
You can download the latest Flash version here: Adobe Flash Player
As with all computing tasks, eliminating unnecessary running apps will free up processing power and provide for a better viewing experience.
7. What do I do if my audio is not working?
- 1st basic step, make sure your speakers are turned on and make sure the volume is up.
- Test your computer’s audio by playing another audio file, like a music file.
- Check/Test your sound by going to Start –> Control Panel –> Sounds and Audio Devices. Under the Volume tab make sure Mute is not checked and that the volume scroll is somewhere in the middle. Test a sound by clicking on the Sounds tab then choosing a sound file like Default Beep and click the play arrow below.
- If you are connecting your computer to a TV, make sure you have the audio cables connected and run properly to the right inputs.
8. What if there is a rainout?
- The PPV stream is handled exactly as if you were at the track. If the track calls it a rainout, we will offer all that paid a raincheck for a free broadcast to the next event of equal value. Now if rains come, but it is considered an official race by the track, then it is an official race with the PPV broadcast as well.
